Excavation programme A Bronze Age boiling site in the north of the New Forest
In the New Forest there are more than 1000 known earthworks ranging from extensive field systems to minute charcoal pits and boiling sites such as the one illustrated above. As part of a long term programme to assist in dating these features, a small annual excavation is undertaken - usually in the last week of August. Hardworking volunteers are always welcome and should contact the Fieldwork Organizer by email.
A Mediaeval enclosure near Brockenhurst. 2004 Excavation.
Great importance is attached to the accurate recording of sites examined. Here is a small enclosure in the centre of the Forest which was investigated in 2004.
