Spring & Summer Programme 2010


Annual General Meeting

The 2nd annual general meeting of the Group will be held at the New Forest Museum, Lyndhurst on Friday 23rd April--please use rear entrance to the building--at 7.30 pm.  It will be followed by a talk on the well-known New Forest archaeologist and writer:

Restoration project on a damaged earthwork in the north of the Forest is to be undertaken on the weekend of 12th--13th June. Work will include the clearance of vegetation and the recording of a damaged section of the site.  Volunteers are needed and if you are interested, please contact the fieldwork organizer (see below).

ANNUAL EXCAVATION 2010

This year's excavation will be at a damaged field system north west of Burley.  There are known Romano-British sites in the area and it is thought the field system may be of Iron Age date.
Excavation dates: 21st--29th August

The New Forest History and Archaeology Group was founded in 2008 to replace the New Forest Section of Hants Field Club .  The focus of the Group is on practical fieldwork and recording of the Forest's archaeology and local history. It undertakes a wide range of projects : (for details click on a link).
